Beautiful site of southern Morocco, the Ksar (fortified village) of Ait Ben Haddou is nicknamed the Mont Saint Michel des Chleuhs, Berber people of southwestern Morocco. Located 30 kilometers north of Ouarzazate, Ksar Ait Ben Haddou is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Here is a beautiful example of southern Moroccan and pre-Saharan architecture. The earthen houses are hidden behind the defensive walls. We could see from a distance while being protected. There is also a mosque, an attic, a stable, a caravanserai, two cemeteries and a well. The site served as a backdrop for many films such as Lawrence of Arabia, Sahara Tea, The Last Temptation of Christ, Gladiator, Babel and many others. At the foot of Ksar flows the wadi Maleh. The latter is so salty that it is unfit for consumption. The light of the place has inspired many directors and photographers but also captivates the visitor.
